Algeciras and Gibraltar are linked again, 40 years later

(Agencies / Photo: EuropaSur) Forty years after the last voyage of the Punta Europa ferry that linked the Rock with Algeciras across the bay, the two are once again 'in touch' by sea. Named in honour of its predecessor, the Punta Europa Segundo ('the Second') docked in Gibraltar on Wednesday with authorities, business people and local press aboard, to be met by their counterparts on the Rock. It was the catamaran's inaugural run. With room for 150 passengers, the Punta Europa II's schedule includes five daily return trips on Monday to Friday, and three on Saturdays - a new public transport aimed at workers on either side and another tourist attraction.
