Gunfight results in police finding two tons of hash; Gibraltar connection suspected

(Agencies) LA L.INEA - A gunfight between two drug-dealing clans resulted in the National Police finding 2,250 kilos of hashish hidden at a home in the Zabal area, with a street value of €2,087,000. The operation saw six people arrested, four belonging to a clan known as Los Poldi, and the other two of a rival clan that had tried to steal from them. The whole thing began around 5am last Tuesday, when police weer alerted about gunshots being fired in the Zabal Bajo part of La Línea. When they arrived on the scene they found>
the gates to a property known by the gang's name to have been forced open; several four-wheel-drive vehicles inside contained numerous bales of hashish. In the house itself, according to police reports, were various very nervous members of the Poldi clan, who were promptly arrested.

Gibraltar connection
The operation was taken over by the Udyco (Anti-Drugs) unit of the Policía Nacional, who proceeded to obtain a court order to inspect the premises.

At the same time, agents of the Environment Unit of the Local Police turned up with a Gibraltar-registered vehicle containing more bales, which had been spotted in the vicinity of the Poldi house with all its tires punctured.

The inspection turned up a camouflaged cache inside the house, hiding 74 more bales and other objects. The cache was smelled out by dogs from the police station.

Shortly afterwards, the Local Police handed over another vehicle at the National Police station. This one had evidently been used to transport drugs, a fact discovered when t its occupants, two brothers of a rival gang, were arrested as they tried to flee from the area after attempting to run over the officers.
A police press release pointed out that the Poldi residence was 'perfectly equipped to handle large quantities of this substance.' Apparently, the gang collected large shipments of the drug along the Spanish coastline and used several vehicles to transport it for storage at the housein Zabal Bajo.

However, a rival gang had climbed over nearby rooftops in an attmpt to steal the drugs from the Poldis, who responded by shooting at them, which alerted the police, who were able to abort any further use or distribution of the substance.
