British NGO sterilizes 161 cats in a week in La Línea

LA LÍNEA (Agencies) El Gato Andaluz is a cat rescue organization born of volunteers from Prodean, the animal rescue centre in La Línea. The former had a total of 161 cats sterilized in a week thanks to help from World Veterinary Society, a British NGO that has been carrying out similar campaigns for five years. Aside from the sterilizations, the operation included surgery on two cats, one with eye problems and the other had to have a foot amputated (it has already found a home). "The idea is to control the number of street cats," explained Victoria Fernández, the organization's President. "Every year we get innumerable kittens, either abandoned in the streets or brought to Prodean. Sometimes the pregnant mother is tossed out by irresponsible owners to avoid the trouble of having  to take care of the kittens."
