Gibraltar opposition demands visas from Spain

GIBRALTAR/SPAIN After another incident on Sunday involving a British Airways crew diverted to Málaga on a flight scheduled for Gibraltar, the GSLP/Liberal opposition in the Rock accuses Spain of to "exercise some flexibility and commonsense" about non-EU nationals travelling to or from the United Kingdom, who continue to experience problems whenever their flight is diverted to Málaga due to bad weather in Gibraltar. In some cases this problem affects non-residents like seamen or flight personnel who are crew changes for vessels, in other cases it affects people who live and work in Gibraltar on a permanent basis, said an Opposition statement, according to Shadow Minister for Civil Aviation Dr Joseph García. “Given that the ultimate destination of such passengers is either Gibraltar or the United Kingdom, that the flight diversions are no fault of their own, and that they hold visas for their ultimate destination, the Spanish authorities should exercise some common sense and allow them to continue on their journey,” said García in a statement issued yesterday.
