Two arrested in false travellers' cheques fraud

LOS BARRIOS (Agencies) Two South African residents of Los Barrios were arrested recently suspected of fraudulently cashing 14 travellers' cheques of €500 each, to the amount of €7000. The owner of an establishment in the town reported that false cheques had been cashed there so the police were waiting for the alleged perpetrators when they returned for a repeat operation. It turns out that the two were supposedly unaware the cheques were false. They had responded to a newspaper ad for employment and sent the money cashed back to the UK, keeping 10% as payment. The two are now 'at the disposal of the court'.
