Two for the price of one: tobacco smuggler drives into anti-drug operation

SAN ROQUE ('nother nice little item from the GibChronicle) A tobacco smuggler was arrested after he spotted a Guardia Civil checkpoint and, veering off into a side-road, drove straight into an unrelated drugs operation. The incident started with Guardia Civil officers chasing a car that failed to stop at a temporary checkpoint near San Roque. While some officers remained at the checkpoint, others chased the car and found it abandoned  on a side road nearby. Inside they found 33 kilos of cannabis resin, but there was no sign of the driver. While this was happening a second car drove up to the checkpoint and, on spotting it, braked hard before ducking off into the side road. As he tried to speed off, he came face to face with the other officers searching the drugs car, who arrested him and found 375 cartons of contraband cigarettes.
