AENA and Council set to meet on March 11 for talks about airport land

LA LÍNEA (Agencies/Photo: EuropaSur) After much blame-flinging and evident political mud-slinging, the two parts that must come together to get the Spanish side of Gibraltar's airport under way have agreed to meet on March 11. The date was proposed by the airport authority in a letter that Mayor Alejandro Sánchez is answering soon 'in the affirmative' (as a press release from the Mayor's Office says), if he hasn't already. According to Socialist Deputy and President of the Congressional Development Commission, Salvador de la Encina, the meeting will take place in Madrid with the head of AENA, Javier Marín. The matter revolved around money; it was Sánchez who said last week that the land intended for the Northern side of the airport, is "La Línea's most valuable" and it is his intention to come to a financial arrangement with AENA that will no doubt help his town's miserable finances.
