New parking scheme starts on April 4

GIBRALTAR (Agencies) Government's newNorth District Pilot Parking Scheme, which comprises Laguna Estate, Devil's Tower Road, Catalan Bay and Both Worlds (Zone 1) gets under way on Monda, April 4. The scheme will be run by Gibraltar Car Parks Ltd. with a staff of sixteen, called Highways Enforcement Officers, who are currently being trained. Convent Place confirms that more parking spaces have been created in Zone 1 to balance out the spaces remjoved when Devil's Tower Road became a dual carriageway. These places are free for residents of the area, who must obtain a permit to access them. Parking on Laguna Estate and Catalan Bay Village will continue to be exclusively for local residents, while Media Luna (Half Moon) will be so for residents of Both Worlds. Residents of all these areas must obtain new parking permits. Government announced earlier this year that>Gibraltar will be divided into Zones, all of which will have parking for residents, motorbikes and vehicles in general, as well as paid parking facilities. A Government spokesperson said that "if everything works satisfactorily, we will be able to restructure parking so that it will considerably improve the quality of life of residents. It will also help shops and businesses by creating space for their clients."
