Guadiaro golfer's spectacular win at Dubai World Championship

DUBAI / Guadiaro Local lad Álvaro Quirós, born and bred in Guadiaro, holed a 40-foot eagle putt on the 18th to clinch a two-shot win over 1999 British Open champion Paul Lawrie at the Dubai World Championship on Sunday as No. 1-ranked Luke Donald became the first golfer to win both the PGA Tour and European Tour money titles. Quirós, 28 and part of a golfing family, is now looking for a place in the European Ryder Cup team. His win came after a battle with Paul Lawrie, the 1999 British Open champion, in a breathtaking 18th hole that saw Quirós sink a 40-foot eagle putt that also shoved Tiger Woods out of 21st place in the world rankings and also pushed him up to fourth in the Ryder Cup points table.
