ALGECIRAS The long-awaited renovation of the striking art school began earlier in the year. The first phase ended in August, with which the director, Juan Carlos Pardo, is very pleased. Most of the work so far consisted of replacing the aluminium windows, restructuring the exterior verticals, of which only ten percent is finished but which is planned for in further phases. Let us hope that work does not end here, as happens to all too many official buildings. (We declare an interest in this art school: Prospero's mother, Phil, was among the first teaching staff when it opened in the 1970s. Write 'art school' in the Search field on the sidebar to see our coverage.)
