SPAIN Eviction proceedings due to foreclosures more than doubled last year compared to 2011, up by 134%. The head of the Spanish judiciary, Gonzalo Moliner, top judge on the Supreme Court and the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ), said in December that the fact has created 'social conflict'. The comment was made when Moliner presented his end-of-year report to Congress. Later a CGPJ spokesperson said that the judge was referring to total foreclosures, including commercial property, garages and second homes, which came to 182,178. Social alarm was considerably increased by the suicide of several people who had lost or were about to lose their homes.
