Floating hotel recruitment day is tomorrow

GIBRALTAR (GibChronicle) Owners of the Sunborn Gibraltar floating hotel are “gearing up for a Recruitment Open Day” this Thursday May 30, where, they say, “up to 200 permanent roles are available for local candidates.”The roles the company need to fill vary in range and skill, and include overall managing director, PA to the managing director, head of human resources, head of administration, food and beverage manager, front office manager, waiting staff, housekeeping staff, shop assistants, reservation agents, bar staff, cooks, sommeliers and various maintenance and trade staff.>>>

CEO for Sunborn Brian Stevendale said, “Whilst the main operation teams will be handpicked for their experience running international hotel chains, middle management and support staff are expected to be sourced locally, with training on hand to develop the necessary skills.”

The company also said that the dates people may be expected to start work cannot be given at present “but Sunborn Gibraltar arrives in less than three weeks and some technical staff will be immediately required in the commissioning process plus, say, roles such as F&B Manager to start gathering together suppliers etc.”

“The ship is expected to be ready a further 75 days from then when operational staff (reception, housekeeping, waiting staff, you name it) will have to be already trained and in place,” they add. 

Mr Stevendale also spoke of the type of staff member they are looking for, he said, “We want to offer young people in particular a real opportunity to come on board, undergo an apprenticeship and learn five star hospitality skills which will leave them in good stead for future international employment. It’s what Gibraltar deserves.”

Not only do the company plan to hire their 200 staff from Gibraltar, but all training of staff will happen in Gibraltar too.

“Taking place on next Thursday from 2pm to 7pm at Sunborn Gibraltar’s development offices within Sotheby’s on Ocean Village Promenade, the Recruitment Open Day gives potential candidates a chance to meet the team and find out more about job opportunities with Sunborn. It’s an informal information-gathering exercise and all people need bring are their questions and an up-to-date CV,” said a company spokesman.
