Gibraltar to celebrate Utrecht Treaty despite saying it is no longer valid

GIBRALTAR (Translated/abbreviated from Europa Sur) The Government of Gibraltar has decided to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Treaty of Utrecht, on July 13, even though it has spent years alleging that the treaty, particularly Article 10, which expresses Spain's right to 'retreat' (on the subject), is obsolete and is invalid. In an address to Parliament, Deputy Chief Minister Joseph García, announced that there will be a public event held on that date that will include the distribution of copies of the treaty, made with a printing press of that era, which has been brought especially to Gibraltar for the occasion. He is of the opinion that although Government does not consider July 13 as a date to celebrate, it is nevertheless a historical moment "that should be commemorated."
