Single water & rubbish price means increases for five municipalities from 2011

CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR The Mancomunidad de Municipios, which runs the Arcgisa water, rubbish collection and recycling services for most of the Campo de Gibraltar (photo of water recycling plant), has announced that in order to reduce the semi-public company's deficit, will be charging a single price for its services as from 2011. This means that there will be an increase in tariffs for five municipalities. Thus Los Barrios, Tarifa, Jimena and Castellar will see a 45% increase in the coming year, while San Roque, which has not charged for the service for years, will have to endure one of 141%. As far as the price of water is concerned, Los Barrios will have an increase to €1.43 m3, which will bring the town into line with the rest of the six municipalities that use the company's services (the exception is Algeciras, which has it's own semi-public company). Arcgisa employs 300 people and bills about €30 million annually. The tariffs mentioned here are all subject to revision.
