Dr Mingo when she was arrested |
Noelia Mingo was sentenced to 25 years in a psychiatric unit
MADRID Dr Noelia de Mingo knifed three people to death and injured another seven on April 3, 2003. She was not convicted of the crime three years later because the court found her to be 'paranoid schizophrenic with delusions of persecution and hallucinations'. Instead, she was sentenced to 25 years of mental unit therapy. Victims and their families are now indignant that the doctor has been allowed out for 30 days under the 'control of her family' for what the penitentiary judge in Alicante has called a therapeutic temporary release. The victims' representative says that De Mingo 'continues to be a risk to society'. Any appeals against her release would not happen in time.
