95% think political parties protect the corrupt within

SPAIN Last year, members of the Unió party in Catalonia appeared in court 16 years after investigations had begun on corruption in the party. In the end, a deal was made that allowed them to avoid prison. It is cases such as this that contribute towards the impression held by 95% of Spaniards that the parties protect their members accused of corruption. This according top a survey carried out by the Metroscopia polling organization commissioned by El País. Politics and politicians, as well as corruption are at the top of the 'concerned' listings of most such surveys, the impression probably made worse by the wide ranging difficulties inherent to the national financial crisis.
