(Agencies / Photo of New Mole House: EuropaSur) Partido Popular National Deputy José Ignacio Landaluce is to demand that Spain's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Miguel Ángel Moratinos, issue a formal diplomatic complaint to Britain's Foreign Office as a reply to the incident regarding recent Royal Gibraltar Police activity in San Roque (reported here). In addition, he is to demand inspection of reports on the case ostensibly in the hands of the ministries of the Interior and Foreign Affairs. Landaluce expounded on his criticism of the Governement's, saying that it seeks to "benefit" Gibraltar when it never made the case public but waited for the media to reveal the 'extremely serious' incident over the weekend. "Gibraltar grows against>Spain's interests and 'makes fun of us'," added the deputy.
Landaluce also criticised the Junta de Andalucía's spokesperson, Mar Moreno, whom he accused of trying to make light of the incident. "It is an abhorrent and illegal incident. [...] One thing is cooperation [between police forces] but quite another is this," he insisted, adding that if the Government and the Junta had knowledge of the case it would be 'extremely serious' but equally if not more so if they didn't. "We want a strong formal protest," he said.
José Ignacio Landaluce also lambasted the British Ambassador in Madrid for saying that this type of incident happens on both sides of the frontier.
