This is a piece called Campanella by Nicollò Paganini. It is said to be one of the most difficult pieces to interpret and that even Franz Lizt, whose finger reach was supposedly enormous, had trouble with it. We haven't been able to find out who this player is or where this recital took place (it reached us via our faithful reader Notalot, to whom thanks), but he is blind and has Downs Syndrome. Nothing is impossible.

Reader's Choice: A heartwarming concert

Reader's Choice (My first record): 'Come as You Are' by Nirvana

Bit of a problem here. This was sent in by someone 'called' @&^%*"=, which back when Prospero was an illustrator was a bad word and unpublishable then and now. It was a hit for Nirvana in 1992, so @&^%*"= will be around the 30s mark now. He or she doesn't give any more information, but enjoy the music anyway...

Reader's Choice (My first record): 'Don't be cruel' by Cheap Trick

Thanks, MoJo (whoDAT?!), for this one. There's no comment with it so we'll just Prospero's: "When I was a very young lad there was a great singer called Elvis Presley who had a hit with- oi!" On second thoughts, we won't include Prospero's reminiscences. This was a live performance at the Huoston Astrodome by, indeed, Cheap Trick, way back in 1989. One of the comments on the YouTube thingy we gort this from says: "You see, People shoudn't even try to do Elvis, because most don't have a clue, but when you're Cheap Trick,Or ZZTop, knock yourselves out because y'all do the King justice!! Thank-you!!!"

Reader's Choice (My first record): 'Maggie May' by Rod Stewart

'This one did my head in," says Stuart, who sent us this. Well, it would do wouldn't it? If you had to hear it all over again, and interminably since 1971! Anyway, thanks, Stuart...

Reader's Choice (My first record): 'Cats'

A complete change of pace from last Saturday's Choice, thanks to Vanessa, who says, "I was a young teen when I was taken to see this in London. I fell in love with musicals and wanted to become a singer. Didn't happen, but I'm happy anyway." Nice, that! Composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot, Cats first opened in the West End in 1981. It is the second longest-running show in Broadway history, and the fourth longest-running West End musical. It has been performed around the world many times and has been translated into more than 20 languages. And it was a job to find a song that has not been done to the death by every singer since Methuselah's wife Syndrome... This one is The Song of the Jellicoes.
