Gibraltar and La Línea come together for Albert Hammond concert

LA LÍNEA (Agencies) The Convention Centre was filled by foreigners and Spaniards alike, mainly from La Línea and Gibraltar, to watch and pay tribute to one of music's greats. Albert Hammond, OBE, came back to where he was brought up, bringing with him 40 years as a performer, producer, composer - and a new album titled Legend, entirely appropriately. Thanking the audience for being there, in Spanish from the stage, he said he was glad to be back 'among you all'. He added, "As I said to my wife on our honeymoon: whatever happens, we're going to have a good time tonight." His repertoire last night included songs in English and Spanish and each piece was welcomed with a roar of applause. Hammond is up there with the best contemporary composers; his first international hit was It Never Rains in Southern California, and others include When I Need you (with Carol Bayer Sager), To All The Girls I've Loved Before (with Hal David for Julio Iglesias), among many more.
