Another Guardia Civil patrol boat 'incursion' in Gibraltar under investigation

(EuropaSur.es) The Ministry of Defense (MoD) confirmed yesterday that it is investigating "an incursion into Gibraltar's territorial waters by two Guardia Civil patrol boats." According to a report picked up by GBC, the boats were towing a fishing boat close to North Front, adding that photos were taken from a Gibraltar fleet vessel, and HMS Sabre (photo by Istagnetto) was deployed to supervise the incident. For its part, the RGP said it was aware of the the trajectory "being carried out by the Guardia Civil, from La Atunara in La Línea, to Algeciras.">
Confrontations between the Guardia Civil and Royal Navy or RGP patrol boats have raised criticism on both sides of the frontier. The most significant recent incident took place last Friday when a RN training ship was target practicing against a buoy that was supposedly flying the Spanish flag.

The British Ambassador to Madrid, Giles Paxma (brother of Jeremy), presented apologies to the Spanish Government and announced an investigation of the incident. However, the spokesperson for the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Senate (and former Mayor of Jimena) José Carracao, announced that it was not in fact a Spanish flag but a pennant used by NATO to represent Nº1, which happens to coincide with the colours of Spain.
