10% of Campo population is foreign

(Agencies) The population of the Campo de Gibraltar continues to grow, according to the Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE, National Statistics Institute). Figures for 2009 show that there are 263,749 inhabitants, an increase of 0.90% from 2008. This represents 2,371 new residents, of which 1,083 are foreigners - that is 45.6% of all newcomers to the area. All the area's municipalities registered an increase in foreign population, as follows:>










Resident immigrants in the Campo region amount to 27,400, or 10.34% of the total population. They are distributed as follows:












The largest group of foreign residents continues to be that from Morocco, which accounts for 6,785 registered residents, 262 more than in 2008, or 25% of all foreigners in the area. They are followed by residents from the EU, of which the British are by far the majority with 5,730 (La Línea registered 2,220 and San Roque 1,835). Some 4,606 residents from America (North, Central and South) are present among us as well.
