According to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism, foreign visitors to Spain amounted to 2.7 million in February, down by 3.8% from the same date last year, mainly due to bad weather in Spain and in the principal emitting countries, causing holiday cancellations. The UK still figures at the top of the list of the market countries with a total of 600,000 British visitors (down by 7.9% in February), followed by Germany (465,000, down 2.6%) and Italy (166,000, up by 7.7%). However, Andalucía registered an year to year increase in the number of tourists (4%), followed by Valencia (3.3%) and the Canary Islands (2.3%). The Balearics, Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, and Madrid showed a drastic downfall in their numbers: 18.6% and 11.7% respectively.
