Gibraltar bunkering business on the increase

According to Brian Reyes in The Gibraltar Chronicle, the Government has received four proposals from bunkering companies interested in taking over the King’s Line military fuel depot deep inside the Rock. This could provide an alternative to floating storage bunkering (photo), which draws increasing criticism from environmental campaigners. "Shifting storage to land would stem concerns – largely unfounded, but nonetheless damaging - that storage vessels pose an unacceptable pollution risk," says Reyes. The bunkering business has shown a "phenomenal" growth in recent years, and with land at a premium on the Rock, King's Line "is an obvious choice." (Read the whole story in The Gibraltar Chronicle)
