Taxi fares are set by Junta

ANDALUCÍA/CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR When a taxi leaves the confines of its municipal boundaries, its fares  are set by the Dirección General de Transportes of the Junta de Andalucía, as the meter is not used. Charges are therefore calculated by the number of kilometres of the taxi's 'run', with nothing added to them, such as forbaggage, which is free, or 'putting the flag down' (bajada de bandera, or setting the meter). Official fares for this year are as follows: €0.52/km for daylight service, and €0.62/km at night, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Charges are for the cab's return trip, which must be a round trip as passengers may not be picked up from another municipality on the return to base. Also,>

passengers have the right to a 15 minute wait on arrival at destination, in case the same taxi is to be used for that purpose. In this case, and after minute 16, charges mount by fractions that can go up to €13 per hour. In all cases, fares are calculated from the centre of one municipality to the other according to tables available to passengers.

These prices are maximums and in the Campo de Gibraltar are charged only by taxis of La Línea. Those of Tarifa charge €0.51 (day rate) and €0.61 (night); San Roque €0.50 and €0.59; Algeciras, Los Barrios and Jimena charge €0.50 and €0.60 per kilometre. Castellar cabs set themselves apart, charging a mere €0.45 and €0.50.

Should a passenger wish to make a claim of any kind against a taxi, it is essential to have a receipt for the trip in question, which must include the following information: date and time, pick up address, destination address, taxi's licence number. The next step is to make the claim either via an hoja de reclamaciones (claims form, which should be available from the driver, or, in the case of a radio taxi system such as those in Algeciras and La Línea, from the office).
