The environment as political armament

GIBRALTAR/LA LÍNEA While Mayor Sánchez of La Línea was in Brussels to hand over a 100-page document to the European Parliament’s Petitions Committee in Brussels detailing an official complaint against the Rock’s reclamation projects, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South West and Gibraltar Graham Watson called on Spain to take responsibility for the storm drain diversion in La Linea which has been blamed for the outflow of raw sewage into Western Beach. And in Seville Greenpeace, banner read “Let’s recover Andalusia”, was protesting against local environmental policies which they claim are damaging regional environments, including pollution in the Bay of Gibraltar and the area of Tarifa. Use of the environment's many problems as a political tool is hardly new - but that is probably why the environment has so many problems.
