The Junta de Andalucía has decided to postpone its planned tax on plastic bags which was to have come into force on January 1. The 5 cents tax on single use plastic bags is now postponed until May 1 following debate in the last cabinet meeting of the year held in Sevilla on Tuesday. It follows widespread complaints against the idea from shopkeepers, local Town Halls, workers and civil servants. "We are a Government which listens," said the Councillor of the Presidency, Mar Moreno. Changes to the canon on water for non-urban use, and to the statutes of public agencies are also being postponed for a maximum period of six months. Also approved: help of €100 million for some of the Town Halls in debt, at a rate of no more than €2.5 million per municipality. (PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS IMPORTANT ISSUE!)
