2,071 kilos of hashish caught at drop point

CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR (Agenies/Photo: EuropaSur) Last Sunday, February 13, saw a significant setback for local drug smugglers when Guardia Civil units of La Línea and Tarifa set up an operation aimed at catching a alrge zodiac type vessel that had ben traced via the latest technology. The result was that over 2 tons of hashish did not get out into the streets. The operation began when the boat was seen approaching the coast near La Líne. At first, it looked like it was going to land there but>
the smugglers caught sight of land patrols nearby. After dropping two 30 kg bales, the boat speeded out to sea in an effort to escape. They were followed by land by other operatives, and were seen to enter the Guadarranque River, where they were intercepted near the Cine Cité complex. The boat, 10 metres long with two 250 cc outboard motors, was abandoned and the alleged smugglers managed to get away, but the GC found 2,071 kilos on board in 63 bales. The investigation is still open.
