Algeciras hospital to start issuing phantom bills 'soon'

ALGECIRAS As we reported a year ago on JimenaPulse, the health service of Andalucía (Servicio Andaluz de Salud, or SAS) would be issuing what we called then 'phantom bills', which are better -and more seriously- called 'informative bills' that tell patients what they would have to pay if they had to pay at all. The Punta Europa Hospital in Algeciras joined the scheme in November with a view to begin sending the bills out some time in January, but has yet to do so. We are reliably informed that depite a short delay, the bills will begin to be issued 'imminently'. (Note: we advise our readers to read our item Andalucía health service costs €3,000 million per year; 'phantom bill' campaign in the planning.)
