CAMPO DE GIBRALTAR (Press release) The vice-President of Arcgisa, Fernando Gómez, announced yesterday that the volume of used batteries collected and processed in 2010 was up by a healthy 28%. Some 8,617 kilos of the more environmentally damaging alkaline and button type were recovered, 2,449 more than in 2009. Gómez points out that the increase is owed in part to the fact that Arcgisa has taken over the collection of batteries at the various Puntos Limpios in the area. Collection has also become more frequent: whereas in 2005 it was carried out monthly, it now occurs when the containers are full.
