Seven years ago today, Madrid trembled to the sound of bombing

SPAIN Today is what is known as 11-M, Spain's own 9/11 or 7/7, when in 2004 ago bombs went off at various points on the Madrid railway system. 192 were killed and almost two thousand injured, all of whom will be remembered at several memorial ceremonies that are not exempt of controversy and politics. Victims' associations or groups are vying with each other for recognition and power, rather than simply setting out to do what they were created to do, which is to remember the dreadful occasion and its victims, many of whom have not yet recovered from it. Judicial investigations into the explosions are still going on, a sad reflection of the chaos that reigns in this country's court system.
