TARIFA Gisela Pulido is back at home in Tarifa now. She has been for a while now but the exquisite taste of her eighth (yes, eighth!) World Kitesurfing Championship has not yet left her. In fact, she's probably out there training as we write. She loves the wind that takes her up to the stratosphere of her sport, and she loves the fact that she won her freestyle gold medal in Germany last month. This makes her one of Spain's most honoured sportswoman ever. And she's only 17.>>>
The Queen of kiteboarding got her eighth freestyle championship at Sankt Peter-Ording after beating Karolina Winkowska (Poland) in a frantically exciting final that began in Thailand, where she won her first victory of the year. Germany, though, is right in the middle of the annual trials, with Brazil and Australia still to go. She can't be beaten this year, despite stiffer competition than ever. At the trials at Dakhla, Morocco, she fell to Brazil's Bruna Kajiya, but recovered masterfully at the Mondial Du Vent at La Franqui, Leucate, France, and then again at the Grand Slam at Fuerteventura, Canary Isles.
Freestyle is the most extreme of styles established by the PKRA (Professional KiteRiders Association), and Gisela has now surpassed Cindy Mosey, of New Zealand, with her four gold medals. Her four also make her the female competitor with the most World titles on the KPWT (Kiteboard World Pro Tour). And she's only 17.
