Cuzco in 1608: "More immigrants every day." "Yes, and they all look the same" |
SPAIN The Twelfth of October is a national holiday in Spain (no school, no banks, few shops, long border queues, etc.). Once upon a time it was to commemorate the 'discovery of America', to which commemoration the native Americans, descendants of Aztecs, Mayas, Incas, and many others, understandably objected on the grounds that more than a discovery it was an invasion by Spain. So, to favour political correctness on both sides of the Atlantic, made way for such celebrations as Día de la Hispanidad ('Spanishness' Day) in Spain or Día de la Raza (Day of the 'Race', but not specifying clearly which race), in much of Latin America. Anyway, enjoy!
