Spanish burglar arrested in Gibraltar

(Gibraltar Chronicle) An unemployed Spanish man was remanded in custody after he admitted stealing from a house in the Upper Town area (photo) and from a local pharmacy. A burglary occurring at a residence in the old town was reported to police on December 20, 2009. A play station console and games were reported stolen by the occupier. Entry had been gained via an insecure door. As a result of enquiries carried out by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal Gibraltar Police, a Spanish man familiar to the residence was suspected of having committed this crime. on January 5, 2010, a Main Street Pharmacy reported that a man had entered the premises and stolen some perfume bottles. A description of the suspect was obtained and circulated to police. Shortly afterwards, detectives arrested Abraham Cortés Murcia, 29, of Calle Barcelona in La Línea, on suspicion of this theft. At the time of his arrest Murcia was in possession of the stolen perfume.Once at New Mole House police station, Murcia was identified as the suspect in the residential burglary. On being interviewed by detectives he admitted having committed both offences. Charged with one count of burglary and one of theft, he was kept in cells and appeared before the Magistrates Court yesterday morning, where he pleaded guilty to both charges. He was remanded in custody until later this month pending pre-sentencing reports.
