Europa Point scheme an 'electoral gimmick'

The GSLP/Liberal coalition, referring to the planned redevelopment of Europa Point, said yesterday that Government's announcement was an 'electoral gimmick'. Opposition leader, Joseph García, pointed out that the scheme was first included in the Budget in 2003, but there was no further movement on the subject until just before the elections of 2007. Work, he added, was scheduled to begin in January 2008, but never got under way. "The only conclusion is that Government has twice tried to hoodwink the population," continued García. "They must now be desperate to capture votes."
