The rain-damaged entrance (N-357) to Algeciras has forced drivers to use alternative roads, one of which is through the port, where the maximum speed is 40k/h. Drivers are complaining of speed traps in that area and the increased chances of getting a ticket. The Port Authority says that the three fixed radar boxes (photo) are not yet operational, though they will be soon. At present the Guardia Civil traffic unit uses mobile radars to control speed on the road. In the meantime road repairs to the N-357 are under study and work 'should begin soon', according to Council sources.
