GIBRALTAR / LA LÍNEA
(EuropaSur) The Guardia Civil (GC) and the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) cooperated in chasing a suspect jet ski that ended with the vehicle apprehended on Poniente beach in La Línea (photo, file), according to sources close to the GC. It all started when the GC became aware of the jet ski's presence in the Bay of Algeciras, when the chase started. The Spanish chase vessel alerted the RGP, which immediately sent its own vessel to join in the persecution. This kind of cooperation between the two forces is not unknown, despite many recent claims to the contrary.>
Recent articles and claims on either side of the border report that the Guardia Civil is increasingly 'invading' Gibraltar territorial waters, with consequent political tension on all sides.

Recent articles and claims on either side of the border report that the Guardia Civil is increasingly 'invading' Gibraltar territorial waters, with consequent political tension on all sides.
A couple of weeks ago, Senator José Carracao (PSOE) proposed a 'policy of action' as part of the Triparte Forum on Gibraltar, which would coordinate anti-smuggling activities in the disputed waters and thus lessen tension for both forces, who do their important jobs daily. Carracao, however, adds that talks at the Forum have been 'paralysed' since February.
Sunday's chase ended with the jet ski cornered and then beached. The driver managed to escape.
