Plaza Alta holds first flower market

ALGECIRAS (Photo: EuropaSur) Two women who run flower stalls at the Ingeniero Torroja market convinced the town hall that a seasonal flower market on the town's main square would be a good idea. And so it turned out. There they are this weekend despite the weather, selling not only flowers but also other seasonal items - those are zambombas at the bottom of the picture. "The idea is to give the town centre a note of cheer," said Mercedes Benítez, one of the women, who, with her friend José María Perles, had the idea in the first place. They hope it will become an annual event.
