JIMENA - Following the burial of José María Caracuel, some forty family members and friends gathered outside the health centre in Jimena in a demonstration against what they consider to be a case of medical negligence. The demo began close to 11.30 this morning, with more and more people coming to show their support for the family. These included Mayor Pascual Collado and Councillor Fernando Gomez. A strong Local Police and Guardia Civil presence prevented the demonstrators from entering the building, where things could have got out of hand as feelings were running high. The signs read "We want justice for José María" and "No more negligence." There was a consistent chorus of "Assassins!" also to be heard. The demonstration was over by about 12.30 after the protesters had marched up toward the centre of town, reaching only up to the Cuenca restaurant. (See our Editorial on the subject.)
