Online trip to the Roman theatres of Gades and Baelo Claudia, and more

ANDALUCIA - Now you can sit comfortably at home and travel to the Roman theatre at Gades (Cadiz) or Baleo Claudia near Tarifa.  This is just the beginning of a project set in motion by the Department of Culture of the Junta de Andalucía that aims to make the best of the many Roman remains in the region. The first phase will include theatres and comedic circuses of Spain's Golden Age (16th and 17th Centuries). Successive phases are scheduled to offer more data on theatrical equipment of this and other historical periods. Initially, and in addition to those at Gades and Baelo Claudia, another six sites are under (virtual) construction: Itálica (Santiponce); Malaca (Málaga); Acinipo-Ronda La Vieja (Ronda); Corduba; Carteia (San Roque). A visit to the site>
(www.rutasteatroandalucia.es ) - unfortunately only in Spanish at present- at first shows a page explaining what to expect. There is a button with a British flag that brings forth what sounds like a very bored American lady speaking something you might find for hire as you amble through a museum. Forget that.

A little perusion will elicit the words Romano and Siglo de Oro. Clicking on the first of these will take you a page full of exquisite detail about Roman theatres. On the sidebar it says Elija su ruta // Acceso a Teatros (Choose your Route // Access to Theatres), Visita Virtual (Virtual Visit) and Fotografía Aérea (Aerial Photography), which are self-explanatory. Enjoy.

We never got around to looking into pages on the more recent theatrical history but will do so next time.
