ALGECIRAS (Agencies) The National Police mounted an operation earlier this week aimed at taking apart a ring that allegedly 'imported' illegal immigrants and forced them into prostitution, according to police sources. Detained so far are two women in Algeciras and one in Sevilla, but the case remains open and more arrests are expected, as it supposedly had ramifications in several parts of the country although everything is supposed to have its main roots, which is home to a centre for those immigrants coming in by boat run by the Red Cross , although the police were at pains to deny any involvement by this organization.>
Sources say that some twenty people are probably involved in running the ring, the heads of which have been followed to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands, to Morocco and several cities in Spain, including Madrid. It is thought there could well be connections in Morocco, which will be investigated further.
The police said that the women were held for several weeks at a flat in Calle Fernando IV in Algeciras, where they were 'taught their trade' and where the two women were arrested, and later distributed to other places around the country.
