Gibraltar epidemiological study debunks cancer incidence

GIBRALTAR (Agencies) The Junta de Andalucía has carried out epidemiological studies on the Campo de Gibraltar at least six times in twenty years. All of them have returned results saying that the incidence of cancer is insignificant. And now, an independent study commissioned by the Gibraltar Government has debunked the widely-held belief that Gibraltar itself is a black spot for cancer, according to the Gibraltar Chronicle. The study found that the total incidence of cancer in Gibraltar was at the EU average. “Gibraltar is not a high-risk community for cancer,” the report found. Researchers nonetheless found that the incidence of breast cancer here was above the EU average and at the top end of the European range, comparable with levels in Denmark, the UK and Switzerland.
