Power cuts due to 'simultaneous breakdown of generating sets', solution is on the way

GIBRALTAR (GibChronicle) The Rock was hit by yet another long power cut on Monday evening. As a result, the Gibraltar Electricity Authority announced that it is getting a set of temporary generators in a bid to avoid more of them. The authority attributed the recent spate of cuts to the “simultaneous breakdown of generating sets at the OESCO and MOD power stations”. In order to protect the continuity of supply when multiple simultaneous engine failure occurs, the Authority is acquiring temporary generators with an additional 5 MWs of capacity be used as and when required, until the new power station is completed. This is equivalent to one third of the total generating capacity of Waterport Power Station.
