BELGIUM We don't usually write about Belgium (it's not in the Campo de Gibraltar, for one thing) but this item has universal appeal (and maybe more local possibilities?). It turns out that Marleen Temmerman (photo), a Senator for the Flemish Socialist party, has proposed that the wives and girlfriends or boyfriends of Belgian politicians refrain from having 'marital relations' with their partners, so that they put an end to the country's political impasse. Belgium held elections last June, and thanks to the traditional Walloons vs Flemish rivalry and confrontation, it has not had a stable government or cabinet since. There are no reports about any results, as the proposal only came about at the end of last week, so it may be too soon to measure any impact. Watch this space...
