Spanish tourism industry hopes for boost thanks to Egypt and Tunisia troubles

SPAIN (Agencies/Illustration: www.eyefetch.com) Several newspapers and TV channels have been reporting from different tourism authorities throughout the country that holiday bookings (this is the season for advance summer holiday bookings) in Spain are showing an upwards swing that they attribute to the troubles in Egypt and Tunisia. Even the BBC has reported similarly. But it is not just the troubles in North Africa: exchange rates between the Pound and the Euro remain fairly stable, compared to the rates with other currencies, including Turkey, which has taken a considerable share of the market away from Spain over the last decade.
