Gibraltar and La Línea promise to restart dialogue if PSOE wins local elections

GIBRALTAR/LA LÍNEA (Agencies) Gemma Araujo, the PSOE candidate for mayor of La Línea in the local elections on May 22, paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Peter Caruana last week, promising to rebuild relations with Gibraltar if she wins the forthcoming election. La Linea and Gibraltar have drifted apart as a result of aggressive, politically-motivated tactics used by the current Partido Popular mayor, Alejandro Sánchez, who has threatened to create a toll for traffic coming off the Rock, among other things. Caruana said that he is willing to "regain lost ground. The yardstick must always be to the benefit of both sides." For her part, Araujo said that her mission was "accomplished. We have talked about being good neighbours and the need to restart a dialogue, which should always be the priority of whoever governs in La Línea."
