LA LÍNEA (Agencies/Photo: EuropaSur) The Junta's Education Council ordered all the primary schools in the town to be closed as from today because they had not been cleaned for over a week. The reason is that the cleaners have been on what is being called 'permanent assembly' because they, in common with all municipal workers, are owed three months' salary. The reasons given for the closure are that the 'health and safety of the children cannot be guaranteed' and that La Línea Council has not carried out its obligation of cleanliness'. An inspection carried out by the Junta yesterday gave the head teachers the choice of opening today or not. They all chose to close. For his part, Mayor Alejandro Sánchez announced that he was going to sue the provincial delegate for Education, Blanca Alcántara, for authorizing the closures, as he had spoken to her by phone saying that he had hired a private company to clean the schools, which they were doing this morning.
