Honey and cinnamon, natural medicine

Cinnamon (canela) and honey (miel) are the planet's only food substances that do not rot or go off. Although it can turn into sugar, honey will always be honey and will not affect diabetics if taken in the proper dosage. But don't ever boil it or heat it up in the microwave as it will lose the enzymes that make it such a wonderful natural medicine. And cinnamon will always be exactly that: a natural medicine. Neither of them present side effects, either, but in combination they have been proved to cure or alleviate a considerable list of illnesses (below), a fact accepted by science if not entirely liked by the pharmaceutical companies. Back in 1995, the Canadian magazine Weekly World News offered a list of illnesses or diseases that can supposedly be cured with honey and cinnamon (we are not responsible for the accuracy of their information or their claims, but we do think it's interesting, particularly as Prospero's mother lived to be 99 and always claimed it was because of the honey she took every single day for at least fifty years - don't know about the cinnamon, and she never mentioned gin...)>>>

Heart problems
Make a paste with honey and powdered cinnamon (canela en polvo), spread on bread every day instead of marmalade and eat regularly as part of your breakfast. Will reduce cholesterol in the arteries and work against heart attacks. If you've already had one and still follow the process, you will be protected from the next one. Also helps keep the heart's rhythm regular and strengthens the heart muscles.
This procedure has been tried effectively in the USA and Canada on numerous elderly patents with hardened arteries and veins - and has been remarkably successful.

Arthritis
Take a glass of warm water, with 2 large spoonfuls of honey and one teaspoon of powdered cinnamon in the morning and at night. Even chronic arthritis has been relieved when taken regularly.
Recent studies from the University of Copenhagen have shown that, of 200 arthritic patients taking a mixture of honey (1 soupspoon) and cinnamon (1/2 tespoon) before breakfast, 73 felt no arthritis pain after only one week. After a month, almost all those who could not walk or move with ease, could now do so without pain.

Digestion
Cinnamon mixed in with two soup spoons of honey taken before meals can reduce acidity and helps digest even the heaviest meals.

Catarrhs and colds
A Spanish scientist has proven that honey contains natural ingredients that kills germs and protects us from the common colds and catarrhs. Also, a spoonful of warm honey with 1?4 teaspoon of cinnamon taken for three days will help unblock sinuses in cases of severe cold.

Longevity
An infusion of honey and cinnamon taken regularly can diminish tissue damage caused by advanced age. Make it with four soupspoonfuls of honey, one of cinnamon in powder and three cups of boiling water, taking a quarter cup each three or four times a day. Maintains skin freshness and increases free radicals, thus lengthening life span (to 100 years, it says in what CampoPulse has translated, but we thought better of making that claim...) - on the other hand, as we said above, Prospero's mother attributed her longevity (she died seven months short of her 100th birthdays) to a daily intake.

Bladder infections
Take two teaspoons of powdered cinnamon and a soup spoon of honey in warm water. It will destroy the germs in the bladder.

Cholesterol
Two large spoonfuls of honey plus three teaspoons of powdered cinnamon in 16ounces of tea, lowered the levels of one patient by 10% in two hours. In arthritic patients, taken three times a day, the allied symptoms of high cholesterol, according to the magazine, are reduced dramatically. Taken daily, it has been well proven that honey helps lower cholesterol levels.

Stomach problems
Honey and cinnamon have been known to help the stomach, for example in cases of acidity. One study even attributes curative powers over ulcers. The combination also clears gases, as revealed by a study carried out in India and Japan.

Immune system
Given honey's high content of vitamins and iron, daily use of honey and powdered cinnamon fortifies the immune system and protects against viruses and harmful bacteria. Continued ingestion of honey is well known to strengthen white blood cells, in itself a protective measure.

Pimples
Three soup spoons of honey and one of powdered cinnamon in a paste can be applied to pimples before going to bed. Wash off the following day in warm water. It might take a couple of weeks of daily applications but the pimples will disappear from the roots.

Skin infections
Applications of honey and cinnamon in equal parts on the affected area have been seen to cure eczemas and other types of skin infections.

Cancer
Recent studies in Japan and Australia have shown that advanced stomach and bone cancers have been completely cured by taking a spoonful of honey and another of cinnamon three times a day over a full month.

Tiredness
Studies carried out by a Dr. Milton (says the magazine) have proved that the sugar content in honey strengthens rather than weakens the body. Elderly patients taking honey and cinnamon in equal parts were more alert and flexible. The doctor's studies indicate that a glass of honey and powdered cinnamon taken first thing in the morning every day, and another at 3pm (when vitality is at its weakest) increases body vitality in just one week.

Halitosis (bad breath)
People in parts of South America often gargle with a spoonful of honey and one of cinnamon to keep their breath fresh all day.
