Miss World 2009 receives Gibraltar's highest honour

GIBRALTAR (GibChronicle by Alice Mascarenhas) Miss World 2009 Kaiane Aldorino was given the highest honour the people of Gibraltar can bestow – the Freedom of the City. She becomes the youngest recipient, and the first individual woman to receive this award which since 1962 has been bestowed on just 10 individuals and 11 organisations. On a raised platform in front of the City Hall still dressed in the National Day colours, an emotional Kaiane, shed a few joyful tears under a friendly levanter cloud. She told the large crowd of well-wishers wanting to witness another historical moment that she was greatly honoured to receive The Freedom of the City of Gibraltar and that it meant a lot to her to share this particular moment with everyone. Overwhelmed, as she held back the tears she paused, looked at the crowd and cried, “this is the most important speech I have ever had to make”.(See the rest of the story on The Gibraltar Chronicle)
