GIBRALTAR The Queen's New Year Honours List included two Gibraltarians: Brian Callaghan received an OBE for services to tourism and chess, and Isobel Ellul-Hammond got an MBE for services to the community in Gibraltar. Brian Callaghan has organized the Gibraltar Chess Festival for almost ten years now. It now attracts some 300 players from all over the world, including some 50 Grand Masters. He is also a former Deputy Chairman of the Gibraltar Heritage Trust.
Isobel Ellul-Hammond is the founder of the Breast Cancer Awareness Charity, formed in 2007 and making headway in raising funds. She also helped found the Prostate Cancer Support Group in Gibraltar and is a Trustee of Learning from Auschwitz. She was elected to Parliament in the latest elections of December 2011.
