SPAIN (El Mundo) Crime is on the up in these hard times. Burglaries, robbery of copper, flats, cars ... but part of a road? That's exactly what happened in Miengo, Cantabria. Ask the mayor, Avelino Cuartas, and he will say, "I know a lot of things can be stolen, but not a road." He is visibly upset. The thing is, the robber, or robbers - Cuartas figures they needed at least a spade and a lorry and probably at leat a couple of people- they left absolutely no trace of the road surface, though it is evident that something strange has been going on in Miengo, which the mayor calls "a beautiful place."
